Is Your Garage Door Uneven? Here Are 3 Possible Causes

Your garage door opens and closes countless times throughout the years. At some point, a part of the mechanism operating it can break, creating imbalance. When this happens, you need a garage door technician to assess the cause of the damage and resolve it. An uneven garage door is a safety hazard in the home, and failure to fix it could lead to injuries and damages to your property. Here are the most common causes of uneven garage doors.

One of the Springs Broke

The modern doors have a pair of extension springs. These are metal springs tightly wound on a drum and used to roll the door on its tracks. When you close the door, the springs unwind and pull the door on its tracks. On the other hand, when you open the door, they wind and pull the door up. Most have overhead springs that keep the door suspended. When one of the sets breaks, the door's weight gets transferred onto the remaining one, which leads to unevenness. It is advisable to call a technician to check the condition of your torsion springs when you notice the lack of balance. A door that you do not repair on time can snap at any moment and cause injuries and damages.

Damage in the Cables

Cables are another fundamental component of garage doors. Sometimes, they fray or jump, which interferes with their functionality. The cables work in tandem to help lift and lower your door. When one of them gets damaged, the entire door goes out of alignment. Remember that your cable could snap at any moment and slam onto a person or vehicle. Repairing the frayed and jumped cable is a simple and effective way to eliminate the safety hazard from your garage.

Problematic Rollers

The door tracks and rollers are another crucial part of the garage door hardware. When properly functional, your door rolls open and closed without unnecessary complications. On the other hand, if the rollers are not running well along the garage door tracks, your garage door might shift to one side. The door will stop working entirely when all rollers jump off their tracks. You should also check for debris, soil, and other grime interfering with the functionality.

The easiest way to deal with door problems is by calling a garage door repair technician to assess the issue and find its cause. Once they have determined the cause, repairing the door will be simple.
